Growing your own veggies is one of the most pleasurable activities that you can engage in. Not only are you getting to spend time with your loved ones, but you’re also ensuring that they get the best possible nutrition.
In addition to that, growing your own veggies means that no matter what season it is, you will never be without fresh produce. It’s also a great way to save money because instead of purchasing them from a supermarket or garden centre, you grow them at home.
Luckily for us, it looks like gardening season is arriving sooner than we think! Let’s take a look at some of the best plants (both annual and perennial) that grow well in Perth and how to get started with them this season:

Beans

Beans are a great plant to grow this season because they’re not only delicious, but they also grow quickly and provide tons of beans. According to Grow Your Own, planting a packet of seeds will yield around 100 grams.

Beetroot

Beetroot is an excellent plant to grow in a container. The only downside is that it’s susceptible to root rot, so you will have to pay close attention to your soil and containers if you want to ensure that your little beets don’t die.

Broccoli

Broccoli is a great choice because it’s one of the most nutritious vegetables that you can grow in Perth. If you want to make your own pesto, all you need to do is chop up a handful of broccoli and toss it with some olive oil, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese. In 30 minutes or less, you will have an amazing dish on your hands.
As an annual plant, broccoli will only last for one season before dying off. But that doesn’t mean that you have to give up on this delicious vegetable! You can still plant them again the following year so that they are still fresh when summer rolls around again.
You can also try planting kale in your garden this year; it grows well throughout the whole season and is full of nutrients like Vitamin A and Vitamin K2.

Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts are one of the easiest vegetables to grow and they are also one of the best vegetables that you can grow in your garden. If you’re not quite confident with your gardening skills, there are several sprouting methods which make it easy even for those who have never grown a plant before.
This vegetable is low maintenance and does well all year round. It’s easy to grow and doesn’t need any extra care than what is needed for other common veggies such as tomatoes and parsley. Brussels sprouts take just six weeks from planting to harvest, so it may be time to get your soil ready if you want them this season!

Cabbage

Cabbage is an easy-to-grow veggie that can be harvested in the space of just three months. It’s delicious and nutritious, with cabbage being able to provide your family with vitamins A and C. It’s also a great way for you to recycle old cabbage as it can be used as mulch or composted.

Carrots

Carrots are a must-have vegetable in any vegetable garden. They’re easy to grow, don’t take up much space, and they have a bright orange colour that makes them stand out.
They can also be eaten raw or cooked and are great for stews and soups. They’re rich in vitamin A and carotenoids so eating them is a great way to get your recommended daily intake of these important nutrients.
Carrots are also high in dietary fibre which is essential for good bowel health. Growing carrots is fun because you can use plenty of different colours from white to purple. Corn Salad (or Popcorn)

This plant is perfect for growing in containers. It’s a great green vegetable that tastes delicious and is nutritious. You can eat the leaves raw or cook them as you like. Corn salad seeds grow quickly and will be ready to harvest in about two weeks.

Dahlias and Daffodils

Dahlias and Daffodils are both annual plants that will flower during the summer season. They are a popular choice for gardeners because they have an easy-to-grow nature and they come in a wide variety of colours.
Both plants require little attention, so if you’re pressed for time and would like to grow some fresh produce, these two plants might be your best option!

Eggplant

Eggplant is a great plant to grow because it is perennial and can be grown indoors. It is also easy to grow and will produce a lot of fruit that you can enjoy.

Mint
One of the best plants to plant this season is mint. Mint grows well in Perth, especially in an area with good sunlight. You can easily grow this plant indoors or out, and it’s also a perennial so you won’t need to worry about reseeding every year!
Kale
If you want to grow your own kale at home, then get yourself some seeds because Kale does not germinate easily from seed! In order for this plant to grow well in Perth, it needs a long growing season of around six months which means that you will need to plan ahead and know when your seeds will be ready.
Rosemary
Rosemary is another great choice for you because it has tall spiky leaves that are perfect for adding flavour to dishes like risotto dishes, stews, and sauces! If you have limited space, rosemary is one of the best plants to use because its roots are shallow meaning that it doesn’t require a lot of room unlike other plants such as tomatoes.
