How to Disguise a Shed in the Garden

Sheds in the garden can be a fantastic way to free up space and add value to your home. They’re also a great place for storing gardening equipment, tools, toys, spare clothing and other items.

However, if you don’t plan on using your shed as much as you’d like, or if you have neighbours who keep complaining about the noise and light coming from it at night, then disguising it in the garden might be a good solution.

Whether your shed is small or large, it will probably consist of two basic components: an exterior wall and an interior floor. For example, most sheds will have a single-wall structure with a pitched roof; they won’t have walls inside that are covered with wooden flooring.

To disguise your shed in the garden without spending too much money or time on it, consider these three options: reno the exterior walls of your shed; build an extension onto a preexisting building; or add another room onto your house…

Renovate the exterior walls of your shed

If your shed is made of wood or brick, you can simply paint it a different colour.

If it’s metal and doesn’t have an ugly exterior to begin with, consider painting the outside of the shed green or black in order to blend into the garden.

Build an extension onto a preexisting building

If you have a large garden, the extension onto a preexisting building is an inexpensive and effective way to disguise your shed.

A simple addition of two walls provides a great amount of privacy and sound absorption.

This option is perfect for sheds that are not attached to anything else, like an unused garage or porch.
For this option, you can either build on to an existing structure or add on to your home. You’ll also need some floor joists, studs and framing lumber; you can find these in most home-improvement stores.

If you want the extension out of the way, you should remove any existing rafters or roof trusses before building your shed extension. This will provide better ventilation underneath the new addition….

Add another room onto your house

Adding a room onto your house may be the most cost-effective way of disguising your shed. If you already have a garage or studio, adding an extra room to the side of your home would be a great way to hide it.

If you don’t have anything like this, then you can always build one from scratch and make it look like any other room in your house. This will also create more space for you to use as well as more storage.

If you’re looking for a fast and easy solution then consider renoing your shed’s exterior walls. You’ll need to paint over them so that they blend into the rest of the garden and create some extra privacy around the area…

Are you sure you want to disguise your shed?

Before you start disguising your shed, be sure that you have enough space to do so. If you live in a small garden, then it might not be worth the time and money you’d spend. But if you have a large garden with plenty of space behind your shed, then disguising it should be an easy and affordable solution.

If you want to disguise your shed without spending too much money on it, then reno the exterior walls of your shed. This will make them look like extensions of your house and add value to your property. If not, consider building an extension onto a preexisting structure such as a detached garage or porch. In this option, you’ll need to find an appropriate location for the area where the extension will go as well as any necessary permits from the city.

Should you want to add another room onto your house–for example, if you want more storage or added living space–then build an addition onto your house instead of the exterior wall of your shed.

You’ll still need to plan how the addition will fit into your overall design scheme and build accordingly; however it’s a much more cost-effective option than renoing external walls or building an extension on another structure.

Conclusion

If you are trying to camouflage a shed and want to be as stealthy as possible, adding a second story or a basement may be the answer.

I’m not saying this is what you should do, but it’s something to consider.
